Guilford Technical Community College put together one of its grittiest defensive performances of the season, holding Fayetteville Technical CC to just 38 shot attempts, but the Trojans’ efficiency proved the difference as GTCC came up just short in a 63–58 road loss Saturday afternoon.
The Titans battled from start to finish, fueled by standout efforts across the roster. Bailey Dutton posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the offensive glass and giving GTCC multiple second-chance opportunities. Nevaeh Dobson added 11 points of her own while pulling in eight rebounds and blocking three shots, providing a strong interior presence on both ends.
GTCC also received a major boost from reserve guard Bethani Overby, who delivered 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists in 20 high-energy minutes off the bench. Overby’s playmaking helped the Titans close the gap in the second half as GTCC made its push.
Despite shooting struggles from the perimeter (1-for-10 from three), the Titans continued to attack the basket and convert at the free-throw line, finishing 15-of-21 (71.4 percent). Roselyn Sanchez added 11 points and four steals while keeping GTCC’s defensive pressure high, and Jewel Pass contributed eight points and a team-high five assists.
Fayetteville Tech, however, countered with exceptional shooting across its lineup, finishing 63.2 percent from the field and 71.4 percent from three. Hannah Reames led the Trojans with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, while a late surge from reserve guard Elyssa Phillips (11 points, 3-of-4 from deep) helped FTCC stay in front.
The Titans forced 10 steals, generated 18 assists on 24 Trojan baskets, and held their opponents to just 22 rebounds — but Fayetteville Tech’s offensive efficiency made the margin slim for error. GTCC outrebounded the Trojans 32–22 and scored consistently inside, but 30 team turnovers proved costly in key stretches.
Despite the loss, the Titans showed resilience, depth scoring, and strong defensive execution that they will look to build on as the season continues.
