GTCC shot an impressive 52.5% from the field and 45% from three, but Southwest Virginia’s ability to get to the free-throw line and convert proved to be the difference. The Flying Eagles went 36-49 at the stripe, outscoring the Titans by 18 points there alone.
Jordan Weaver led the Titans with a powerful all-around performance, tallying 19 points, 8 rebounds, and an eye-popping 5 blocks, dominating the paint on both ends. Mike Webster added 17 points and a team-high 6 assists, controlling the tempo and keeping GTCC in striking distance throughout the night.
Off the bench, Marcus Robertson provided a major spark, knocking down four threes on his way to 14 points, while Tyren Martin contributed 10 points and 4 assists, helping fuel a late Titans push. GTCC’s balanced scoring effort continued with strong contributions from the starting unit. Nikel Rodgers went a perfect 2-for-2 from deep, and Mike Cade added 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Despite GTCC’s efficient shooting, Southwest Virginia was paced by a standout 35-point outing from Deonta Mozell, whose shot-making and relentless trips to the line kept the Flying Eagles ahead in crucial stretches.
The Titans fought to the final buzzer, trimming the deficit multiple times in the closing minutes, but Southwest Virginia’s free-throw advantage ultimately held firm.
GTCC will look to build on its offensive rhythm as it moves into the next stretch of its schedule, aiming to tighten up defensively and continue its strong ball movement and shot selection.
